Okay so Shrek the Musical opens in November at the Broadway Theatre. The amazingly talented Sutton Foster is leaving young Frakenstein and not even taking a break before she originates the role of Fiona. Christopher Sieber will be playing Lord Farquad, and the dragon has been cast as well. My mind just went like completely blank and I forgot the actress’ name. So anyways the actors portraying Donkey and Shrek haven’t been announced yet. So I’ve heard rumors that Paul Vogt (of Hairspray and MADTV) might play Shrek. I’d love that! He’s an amazing Edna Turnblad and I’d go see Shrek if he was the lead. Post your opinions of who you think will play Shrek and Donkey in the comments.
Kecia Lewis-Evans!!!!! I finally remembered!! Well she will be playing the dragon. I have no clue how they are going to do the dragon. A big mechanical robot with Kecia backstage making the noises the dragon makes? Kecia in a dragon suit with mechanics attached all over her? (like Scar in the Lion King) I really don’t know!
I’m sure Christopher Sieber will be a great Farquad. I saw him as Gaston in Beauty and the Beast back in 2001 and he’s great at playing the bad guy. Sutton is pretty much amazing in everything she does so I’m sure she’ll be awesome as Fiona! How are they going to make her turn from a human to ogre in that one scene so fast? It will be absolutely awesome to see Sutton green!
Wow! I just realized Shrek and Fiona will add to the green characters on Broadway, which is only Elphaba right now. (I think!) I wonder what the songs will be like. I think the show will only be about the first film in the series which I haven’t seen in probably 4 or 5 years.
So that is the end of my rant on Shrek the Musical!

Sutton is coming from Young Frankenstein not Spring Awakening. And I think this will be interesting, as I think about it more I realize it might not be as bad as I think but I think it won’t be t great but Broadway makes everything work.

Broadway has The Monster (YF), Elpheba, Shrek and Fiona, and during the Holiday season, the Grinch.
If and when Spiderman actually makes it to Broadway, I believe the villain in that would be the Green Goblin. So there will be another one.
Lot of green.

Paul Vogt would be a perfect Shrek. He was the best Edna since Harvey! He’s funny. He’s big. But he has a lot of heart. They’d be hard pressed to find someone who fits better.
